Have you heard of Surveillance Capitalism? How about the fourth industrial revolution? This is where we are living…right now. According to Neil Patrick’s blog, Participate or Perish, we are now the most sought-after product in the universe. If you haven’t read his blog, I suggest you rearrange your calendar and read it as soon as you finish this blog.
Your future is at stake:
Neil gives us a quick lesson on the history of the industrial revolutions. Sounds boring, I know. But it will help you understand just how fragile our futures are. Your future is at stake if you don’t understand the power of the fourth industrial revolution.
The fourth industrial revolution brought in surveillance capitalism, which feeds on data. It has a voracious appetite and we are feeding it every minute of our lives.
You are a star!
Surveillance Capitalism makes us the product. It knows everything about us. Don’t kid yourself into thinking that this doesn’t mean you. It knows everything you do, where you go, what you eat, who you hang out with, and what you buy. You are stalked because YOU are a luxury, high-end prize. The spotlight is on you—every minute of every day.
Once we searched Google, but now Google searches us. Once we thought of digital services as free, but now surveillance capitalists think of us as free.
The appetite of the unstoppable and voracious data machine is indiscriminate. Everything will be eaten, digested, and stored for use. Everything about you can and will be sold to the highest bidder. It will either work in your favor or work against you.
Good news and bad news:
Good news: you can control some of what you are feeding the surveillance technologies.
Bad news: If you don’t control its diet, then you will be at its mercy. It has none.
Are you tempted to hide? Consider reading this before opting out.
What’s in your diet?
What are you feeding the unstoppable, voracious, indiscriminate surveillance machine?
The hard truth:
Surveillance Capitalism cannot be stopped. You cannot starve it to death. If you choose not to feed it, you are the one who will starve.
What should you do?
Do you need an income? Then you are a jobseeker. In the past, we only thought about our online profile when we were changing jobs. Today we are perpetually being watched by the machines. And this data is determining our futures 365 days a year.
There’s only one answer. Feed the machine a diet that will present you as a gold standard candidate in your field. …or perish.
